National Art League Kicks Off 81st Annual Fall Members' Exhibition

Douglaston gallery will present gold, silver and bronze medals at Nov. 13 reception.

The is showcasing 93 pieces of artwork of varying styles and formats this month to celebrate the debut of its 81st Annual Fall Members’ Exhibition.

The exhibit, which kicked off this week and will run through Dec. 3, is the only show during which the Douglaston gallery awards medals.

This year, the league’s show includes 38 oil and acrylic pieces and 37 watercolor paintings as well as three sculptures, two ceramics, one papier-mache and l2 other media art works.

The show, which takes up both of the league's floors, includes representational and abstract work, while subject matter covers everything from landscapes and still life to seascapes, self portraits and animals.

“I think this is one of our most diverse shows and really demonstrates the skills and talent of our membership,” said Marie Marsina, the league’s president.

The gallery will award gold, silver and bronze medals in the categories of watercolors, oil and acrylic paintings and other media, such as pastel paintings, sculptures and mixed media.

Merit and honorable mention ribbons will also be handed out.

The reception and awards presentation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 13.

Jeff Webb, a master panelist as well as a drawing and painting teacher, will act as the show’s judge. He has shown his work at East Hampton’s Gallery East, Paris’s Maison LaFitte and Soho’s Z Gallery and has been featured in American Artist Magazine.

The National Art League, which was founded in 1930, has nearly 300 members who range in age from 40 to 90 years. It hosts free art demonstrations and offers a variety of classes.
