Jewish Film Series - A Matter of Size

The Jewish Film Series presents a sophisticated cross-section of powerful and thought-provoking films with an emphasis on films with Jewish themes and/or featuring Jewish artists and filmmakers. All films are followed by a discussion with a relevant speaker who will provide exciting insight into the film and its subject matter.

A Matter of Size: Directed by Erez Tadmor. Israel, 2010, 90 min. In Hebrew and Japanese with English subtitles.

Four overweight friends from the Israeli city of Ramle are fed up of dieting and the dieting club they belong to. When Herzl (155 kilos) loses his job as a cook and starts working as a dishwasher in a Japanese restaurant in Ramle he discovers the world of Sumo where large people such as
himself are honoured and appreciated. This Israeli comedy (yes, comedy!) is a heart-warming tale about about a coming out of a different kind: four overweight guys who learn to love themselves through the Japanese sport of sumo wrestling.
