With his fifth solo album “All Grown Up” recently released and receiving rave reviews and hit singles from it on the top of Smooth Jazz charts, the Village of Great Neck Plaza announces the return engagement of highly acclaimed saxophonist Paul 'Shilts' Weimar performing, Tuesday, August 14 at 8 pm in Jon's Park, at Grace Avenue and Park Place.  Shilts will bring in his band several other writers and jazz performers.  This free concert is being presented by the Village of Great Neck Plaza and is open to the public. The Village is grateful for the support from The Andrew Hotel for this performance.

The Village of Great Neck Plaza would like to thank the Great Neck Park District, Great Neck Senior Center, and Great Neck Arts Center for their cooperation and support throughout this popular summer series.  We suggest bringing a blanket or lawn chair for seating on the park lawn.  The Great Neck Senior Center (80 Grace Avenue) will be utilized for an indoor performance in the event of rain.  Call Village Hall, (516) 482-4500, and after 5 p.m. there will be a voice recording if the concert has been moved indoors.

The Village would also like to acknowledge and give a special thanks to all the sponsors and supporters of this year’s Summer Concert Series: Allstate Insurance Mountrane Agency Inc., Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, Astoria Federal Savings Bank, Atria Senior Living, Daruma of Tokyo, Grace Plaza Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Great Neck Arts Center, Jildor Shores, Joseph & Company Hair Salon, Laverne of Great Neck, Katya School of Dance and TD Bank.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
