Douglaston Little Neck Library to Host Film Screening, Magic Workshop in April

The library has a full roster of special events next month as well as its monthly programs.

The Douglaston Little Neck Library will host a screening from a local filmmaker, a magic workshop and a concert in April.

The library, located at 249-01 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston, will offer five special programs along with its regular classes next month.

On April 3, the library will offer Sign, Read and Play, a storytelling event for children during which certified American Sign Language instructor Jacqueline Ciaramella will teach basic signing vocabulary reinforced by stories, songs, rhymes and activities.

The class, which begins at 1:30 p.m., is aimed at children up to age 3. Space is limited, so the course is available on a first come, first serve basis.

On April 9, the library will host a concert at 2 p.m. during which Diane Hoffman will play music by Hammerstein and Hart.

Anna’s Book Discussion will take place ta 11:30 a.m. on April 17. The topic will be M.L. Stedman’s book, “The Light Between Oceans.”

The library will host a film screening and discussion with Douglaston director Elana Mugdan at 4 p.m. on April 18. She will show “Let’s Make a Movie” as well as discuss how she wrote, directed and financed the picture.

And, on April 18, a magic trick workshop for teenagers will be held at the library at 4 p.m.

The library’s monthly programs for April include English conversation classes on April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 1 p.m.

Its knitting and crocheting club will take place at 4 p.m. on April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

Picture Book Time will run on April 4, 11 and 25 at 11:30 am. This program is intended for children between the ages of 3-and-a-half to 5 years. Activities include songs, stories and crafts. The first 12 children to show up will be admitted.

Mother Goose Time, which is meant for children between the ages of nine and 24 months, will take place at 11 a.m. on April 4, 12, 19 and 26. During this class, attendees sing nursery rhymes, listen to stories and learn about Mother Goose. The first 15 children and their caregivers will be admitted.

Book Buddies will be held on April 5, 12 and 26 at 3:45 p.m. The class, which is aimed at students in kindergarten through fourth grade, is an hour-long program during which each child will be able to practice listening and reading aloud.
