Whiz Kids: Bayside High School Senior Internship Students

Bayside High Students Get a Taste of Real Life

Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kids honoree.

  • Name: Rashida Abraham, Brittny Choi, and Quincy Newell
  • Age: 18, graduating seniors
  • School: Bayside High School
  • Accomplishment: Chosen to participate in the 2011 Career Development Program

Kids’ Key to Awesomeness: Rashida, Brittny and Quincy were three of 24 selected students in New York City to participate in the 202011 Career Development Program, sponsored by the Center for Arts Education. Over 130 students were interviewed at 13 New York City High Schools and only 24 were chosen to be in the program. The Career Development Program trains students for a 12 week internship at some of the biggest companies and organizations in the arts industry.

Rashida interned at NOLA Recording Studios where she observed and assisted in several recording and mixing sessions. Brittny Choi interned at the Bruce Silverstein Gallery in Chelsea where she learned what it took to run a fine art photo gallery and where she had the opportunity to meet new photographers in the professional NYC art scene. Quincy Newell interned in the Education Department at the Flushing Council on Culture & the Arts in Flushing Town Hall.  He took part in planning and performing at the Annual Gala and Jazz & Poetry Day.
