Whiz Kids: Bayside High School Percussion Ensemble

It's not just banging on drums

  • Accomplishment: Participation in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) festival at the highest level (Level 6)

Kids’ Key to Awesomeness: The Bayside High School Percussion Ensemble literally “rocked” the music world at the NYSSMA festival at New York University on June 11, entering at the highest level (Level 6), which is considered professional level music. The ensemble received one Outstanding (the highest rating given) and four Excellents (the second highest rating given) and performed the pieces "Techno-Pop" by Nathan Daughtrey and "A La Samba" by Mitchell Peters. The students who performed are: Christian Cruz, Jeffrey Meza, James Narlis, Eric Diaz, Min Woo (Alex) Lee, Karry Park, Hansol Choi, Regina Shin, Halima Boykin, Steven Garcia, Brian Park, Landel Thorman, Jordan Watkins, Cynthia Mgbeojirikwe, Jonathan Castrillon, Michael Mitchell, Juwan Arnold, David Jenkins and Stephon Bridges. Their teacher is Mrs. Vanessa Curcio. Keep on making music!
