What's Open and Closed on Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday
Find out which city services will be available on Jan. 20.
Today, the city celebrates the birthday and legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
A number of city services will not be available today, so Patch has compiled a list of what's open and closed for the day.
1. Post offices are closed and there will be no regular mail delivery.
2. Banks, schools, libraries and government offices will be closed for the day.
3. Alternate side parking is suspended for the day. However, parking meters will remain in effect.
4. The Long Island Rail Road will operate on a holiday schedule. There will be extra trains added on the Port Washington, Port Jefferson, Montauk, Babylon and Ronkonkoma branches. Also, off-peak fares will be in effect for the entire day.
5. Subways and buses will operate on a weekday schedule.
