Westmoreland Association to Meet Monday Night

Join your friends and neighbors for the civic association's quarterly gathering Monday night.

The Westmoreland Association will convene at the at 8 p.m. to discuss an array of issues that impact residents.

Among the topics up for discussion is the safety of the area's two parks: Admiral Park across the street from PS-94, as well at the park located at the base of Glenwood Street. Residents are encouraged to share any troubles related to noise, violence or vandalism, as well as police responsiveness.

Walter Mugdan, president of the Westmoreland Association, said that though the parks have been largely crime-free over the last few years, he nevertheless checks in with residents each September to ensure that nothing out of the ordinary occurred during the summer months.

"It's not that we have any particular expectation that there is a problem," he said. "But we always want to find out."

Discussion will also continue regarding a installed last year at Little Neck Parkway and Long Island Railroad tracks. Though the traffic reconfiguration was made way back in November, Mugdan said that residents remain unhappy enough that more discussion is warranted.

An assessment of the summer's storm damage, building codes and parking issues are also on the docket.

Longtime Westmoreland residents and recent transplants alike are encouraged to attend. Unsure whether you live in Westmoreland? The neighborhood is bounded approximately by Northern Boulevard, Little Neck Parkway, the Long Island Railroad and the Nassau County line.

Meetings will also be held on Nov. 21, March 19, 2012 and May 21, 2012.
