Week in Review

It was a busy week for news in northeast Queens.

Valentin “Val” Chmerkovskiy, of “Dancing with the Stars,” dropped by St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children to dance with its patients and judge a contest.

Patch interviewed City Council candidate Chrissy Voskerichian and Alley Pond Environmental Center announced a blood drive in honor of the nephew of an APEC employee who recently died.

Monday

The Little Neck-Douglaston Lions Club announced the honorees for its fall dinner dance. Reviews in This Week at the Movies included “The Wolverine” and “Blue Jasmine.”

Tuesday

Construction has begun at the former Scobee Diner site and Bayside’s Dunkin’ Donuts on Northern Boulevard was expected to reopen this coming week.

Wednesday

Community Board 11 leaders said they were upset that the city has been leaving them out of a process to construct a new school in Bayside. And check out this photo and brief story on a group of Queens children who are taking part in a Bayside rock ‘n’ roll camp.

Thursday

APEC announced a blood drive in memory of the nephew of one of its employees who recently died. The Bayside United Methodist Church’s pastor told Patch about its upcoming Blessing of the Animals.

Friday
