It was a very cold week in northeast Queens and a fairly busy one for news.

Councilman Paul Vallone, D-Bayside, was sworn in during a ceremony in Bay Terrace and Sneaker and Sports opened along Bell Boulevard.

And P.S. 46 announced that it would hold a week-long celebration for recently being named a Blue Ribbon school.

Monday

Sneaker and Sports opens in the former Shoes I Love site on Bell Boulevard.

Tuesday

Community Board 11 members discussed the lack of enforcement of several city laws in their communities during the group's first meeting of the year. And representatives from the 111th Precinct and the FDNY gave crime statistic updates and fire safety tips, respectively, during the meeting.

Wednesday

The Bayside Historical Society kicked off its annual art show. And P.S. 46 plans to celebrate for a week after being named a Blue Ribbon school.

Thursday

A city Health Department study finds that one-third of children under the age of 5 years did not get a flu shot last year. And the Bayside Little League kicked off its registration for the spring season this weekend.

Friday
