Catch up on the top stories in Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck.

Between the election, the cleanup from one storm and the arrival of another, it was a busy week in northeast Queens.

President Barack Obama won a second term in office, while state Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, state Assembly candidate Nily Rozic and state Assemblywoman Grace Meng, D-Flushing, also won their bids.

At Community Board 11’s monthly meeting, northeast Queens residents had a lot to say about the city’s reaction to Hurricane Sandy.

Monday

Blogger Laura Madsen provided some more photos of Sandy’s destructive path. Reviews in This Week at the Movies included “Flight” and “The Man with the Iron Fists.”

Tuesday

CB 11 discussed the city’s response to Sandy as well as voted unanimously against a variance for a controversial property being developed in Bayside by Tommy Huang.

Former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner makes a return to Twitter and Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, said he is done with politics.

Friday

This week’s Meet the Owner profile is Lou Dammassa of Bayside’s VIPizza.

Weekend

The IRS is offering a tax credit for businesses that hire veterans before the end of the year.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
