Website Releases Walkability, Biking Study for Five Boroughs

Not surprisingly, northeast Queens neighborhoods do not rank toward the top in terms of walkability, transit options or biking.

A website that ranks the most walkable cities and neighborhoods in the United States has released its annual rundown of which communities in the five boroughs are easiest to travel by foot or bike.

Not surprisingly, most northeast Queens’ neighborhoods do not rank very highly on the list.

Bayside, which came in at 155 out of 256 city neighborhoods, received a 78 percent score for walkability.

It received a 62 percent score for transit options and a 53 biking score.

The communities were given a 50 percent transit score and 41 percent for biking.

And Oakland Gardens came in at 208 with a 64 percent walkability score, 62 percent for transit and 61 percent for biking.

Manhattan’s Little Italy and Chinatown came in first place, while Rikers Island was dead last and, not so surprisingly, unfriendly for biking.

Walk Score wrote that New York is the nation’s most walkable city with “excellent transportation.” It also ruled that the five boroughs were “somewhat bikeable.”
