Udalls Cove President to Discuss Wetlands at Queens County Bird Club Event

Walter Mugdan will talk about local preservation efforts during Jan. 16 event at Alley Pond Environmental Center.

The Queens County Bird Club will host an event in Douglaston on Jan. 16 during which the Udalls Cove Preservation Committee’s president will discuss the history of local wetlands.

The discussion will begin at 8 p.m. at Alley Pond Environmental Center, which is located at 228-06 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston, and will be free to the public.

Walter Mugdan, president of the Udalls Cove Preservation Committee and Patch blogger, will talk about the 40-year history of the hardships and victories of preserving local wetlands, woods and watersheds.

Mugdan will present a slide show with photos of a number of local spots, such as Udalls Cove Park, Aurora Pond, Virginia Point and Little Neck Bay.

He will also highlight local bird watching spots and conservation efforts. Light refreshments will be served.
