This Fathers Day, Immortalize Dad on Patch!

Tell your neighbors your dad's #1 right here.

Looking for Fathers Day gift ideas? Well here's a new one — how about giving dad some Internet fame?

You know he's the world's greatest, but until now spreading the word has been limited to how many people might see a coffee mug, a barbecue apron, maybe a t-shirt.

But this is the 21st century. There's no longer any reason to hide dad's light of awesomeness under the bushel of novelty drinking vessels and sportswear.

Imagine his surprise Fathers Day morning (which is Sunday June 17, by the way) when you hand him a laptop, smartphone or tablet and show him the glowing article you've written about him on Patch.

It's fun, free and easy to do too — just follow these instructions:

  1. If you don't already have a Patch account you can join here.
  2. Once that's done, come back to this page and register for your own Patch blog here.
  3. From there select "Post on Patch" and you're ready to start blogging. You can even add photos and videos.

Just remember that if dad's a Patch reader too you may want to wait until the night before to upload your testimony to dad's greatness.

And you can use your blog any time you like to write about anything happening in your neighborhood.

It really is a gift that keeps on giving.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
