St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children will offer free car seat inspections on Sept. 21 at its Bayside campus for local parents.
The hospital, located at 29-01 216th St., will provide the inspections as part of National Child Passenger Safety Week, which runs from Sept. 15 to 21.
The hospital, which provides care for children with life-limiting conditions, has several certified child passenger safety technicians who are trained in special needs transportation.
Children who have conditions such as cerebral palsy or poor head/neck control may need to use a special child restraint.
Those interested in having an inspection should make an appointment in advance by calling 718-281-8571.
St. Mary’s has also provided some safety tips for drivers:
1. The safest place for children of any age to ride is properly restrained in the back seat.
2. Buckle unused seat belts.
3. Seat belts fit properly when they can be worn with the lap portion of the belt low and snug across the thighs and the shoulder portion across the chest and shoulder.
