Powerful You Focuses On New Year's Goals

Douglaston Group for Women Divulges Networking Tips, Discusses Personal Achievements at Monthly Meeting

The ladies of the Douglaston-based chapter of the Powerful You Women's Network shared both personal and professional achievements as well as discussed networking strategies and New Year's goals at their monthly meeting this week.

Powerful You, which consists of nearly 30 members from Queens, brings together women from all across the borough from professionals and small business owners to artists and those in transition in an effort to promote business, personal and spiritual growth.

The group meets monthly at Giardino's on Douglaston Parkway to connect and share success stories.

Facilitators Jo-Anne Behal, a certified life coach and Gayle Naftaly, president of the marketing and public relations firm, Access Office, reminded the group of women of the power of networking and building relationships.

“When relationships are formed, leads, referrals, alliances and friendships happen naturally and organically,” Naftaly said.

As part of the monthly agenda, the group discussed networking tips such as wearing a name tag on the right side to prevent the tag from being blocked or obstructed when shaking hands. Other suggestions included repeating names during conversations and making a name/face connection with work colleagues.

The women broke into groups of five to participate in this month’s discussion topic, “setting and attaining your intentions for 2011."

Within the groups, each woman was asked to answer a series of questions regarding how she planned on attracting new clients for the New Year. They were encouraged to brainstorm this concept to help bring new and intuitive ideas to the table.

“We are a network of women, helping each other,” Behar said. “I want to help women discover themselves. Once they discover that the world is open to them, the possibilities are endless.”

The Powerful You Women’s Network meets every third Tuesday of the month from noon to 2 p.m. at Giardino’s Restaurant, which is located at 44-37 Douglaston Parkway. The meeting is open to all women.
