There Are Plenty of Options for Summer Camps in Queens

Going to camp doesn’t have to mean a long bus ride out of Queens. There are plenty of options right here in your neighborhood. Here’s a look at 5 Patch Picks for day camps.

The Samuel Field Y on 58-20 Little Neck Parkway in Little Neck has an enormous camping program with all sorts of options for children, ages 2 to 15. The camp offers full and half day schedules, indoor and outdoor programs and five-day travel excursions. There are also programs for kids with disabilities. Call 718-225-6750, ext. 261, for more information.

Check out the Young People’s Day Camp of Queens, which is based out of the upper portion of Alley Pond Park in Douglaston. It sits on 600 acres of land with basketball courts, baseball fields and playgrounds. When it rains, the campers head to P.S. 162 on 53rd Avenue in Bayside. As for swimming, campers get private access to an Olympic size pool. Call 1-800-856-1043 for more information.

World of Discovery Day Camp of Queens is another option for children between ages 5 and 14. The camp, which utilizes nearby pool facilities, is located on the John Golden Ball Fields at 32nd Avenue and 215th Place. Staying true to the camp’s name, campers take two to three trips each week. A highlight is a ride in the Discovery Charters Speed Boat for a tour of the Hudson River with a close up of the Statue of Liberty. Call 718-229-3037 for more information.

Children looking to improve their skills on the ball field will want to check out Sports Camp Connection on the Queens College’s 77-acre campus in Flushing. Kids between the ages of 5 and 14 years will be coached by certified instructors to improve their skills in baseball and softball. For more information, visit sportscampconnection.com.
