Parks Department to Host Meeting on Alley Creek on Jan. 31

Discussion will revolve around a watershed management plan for northeast Queens.

The city’s Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting a meeting on Jan. 31 in Douglaston to discuss a watershed management plan for northeast Queens.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at Alley Pond Environmental Center, which is located at 228-06 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston.

The Parks Department’s Natural Resources Group is seeking input from local residents on developing goals for a watershed management plan to protect and enhance ecological resources of Alley Creek.

The plan will focus on open space parkland and areas where storm water runoff drains directly into the creek and Little Neck Bay.

The city is also preparing a long-term control plan for the creek that focuses on the combined sewer drainage areas.

At the meeting, participants will be able to talk about water quality, flooding, storm water runoff, habitats for birds and a variety of other topics.
