Each week, our Parents Council of experts takes your questions, gives advice and shares solutions.
Moms, dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community will have a new resource for questions about local neighborhood schools, the best pediatricians, 24-hour pharmacies and the thousands of other issues that arise while raising children.
This week’s question is:
Last weekend's snowstorm came as a surprise to many city residents. What are some supplies that parents should have around the house in the case of a weather emergency?
Judy Vincent:
Well we should handle all storms the same way. We were given plenty of notice that it was coming. Parents and people in general should have a week's worth of food in the house when word of a storm is coming as well as a full tank of gas, bottled water, plenty of candles and flashlights with batteries. And, most of all, stay off the roads unless it's an absolute emergency.
There is nothing that is that important that needs to be done in a storm. Keep the kids inside and bake cookies and drink hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows.
