No Alternate Side or Meter Feeding

December 28, 2010

Well Bayside, that was special, wasn't it?

Your local editor turned all Queen Frostine for the day yesterday, posting a flurry of storm stories, announcements, tweets and facebook posts. Count on that from Patch, always.

Thanks for sending in your photos! We knew we could count on you, and we love you even more now that we know what you look like in a hoodie. We'd like to use them all today, but if you end up not seeing your mug right away, check back in with Patch.

Here are your five things you need to know this first Tuesday after the snowpocolypse:

1. There's no alternate side parking today. Makes sense, right? Can't move your car to the alternate side, if the other side of the street is frozen and three feet higher.

2. Don't bother feeding the meter either. The DOT doesn't want your money…today.

3. Please don't overexert yourself while you shovel, Bayside! The Office of Emergency Management says that cold weather can strain the heart. Check here for their exhaustive list of shoveling safety tips.

4. OEM also tells you what to do if your car gets stuck in snow. We know that many cars got snagged in the streets yesterday, and abandoned cars prevented snow plows from getting through to many streets, in turn causing many emergency vehicles delay or foil.

5. Park Slope Patch has a by CBS Producer Paul LaRosa, who—in putting the city's snow clean-up this time around in perspective—makes mention of when former Mayor John Linsday disregarded Queens during a similar storm in 1969
