U.S. Reps. Grace Meng, D-Flushing, and Steve Israel, D-Great Neck, held a press conference Tuesday afternoon in Bayside to call on the Federal Aviation Administration to exempt Queens' airports from a new rule that would allow the agency to initiate new flight patterns without environmental reviews.

Research Paper May Soon Be Required For HS Graduation

The New York Board of Regents is pushing forward with a plan to require all high school students to complete a 1,250 word research paper in order to earn a diploma. 

The details of the proposed essay requirement will soon be reviewed by educators statewide after a Board of Regents committee considered the proposal at a meeting Monday. Final approval of the proposal could come as soon as November.

Jon Kaiman will be heading up a second state-run agency – the one overseeing Nassau County's finances.

The outgoing North Hempstead town supervisor will be formally stepping down on Monday morning to assume a state position as special Long Island adviser with the New York Rising Community Reconstruction Program

In addition, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has tapped Kaiman to also head up the seven-member Nassau Interim Finance Authority, the state control board overseeing the county's finances, replacing outgoing chairman Ronald Stack.
