Mark Weprin Leads Vows for Seniors Married for More Than 50 Years

Councilman Performs Marriage Renewal Ceremony

Councilman Mark Weprin, D-Oakland Gardens, led a ceremony last weekend during which he performed wedding vow renewals for Queens seniors.

The couples, all of whom had been married for more than 50 years, became newlyweds once again during the event, which was held at Services Now for Adult Persons in Queens Village.

"It's a chance to honor the true heroes of the community - couples who have been married for more than 50 years," Weprin said. "Too often, we hear about couples breaking up and not enough about people staying together."

Weprin holds the ceremony every year on Valentine's Day.

"These couples realize marriage isn’t a game and it’s not always easy," the councilman said. "When it’s tough, they work together through thick and thin, through good and bad times. Love doesn’t necessarily peak, it blossoms over the years."
