Here are some important ones to keep in mind this week:

Rally At M.S. 158

Adovocates of the free after-school and enrichment and childcare programs known as Beacon Schools plan to stage a rally at Marie Curie Middle School.

The Dept. of Youth and Community Development plans to program at . The rally is planned for Tuesday, April 24, at 6p.m. The school is located at 46-35 Oceania Street, in Bayside.

Hear Comptroller John Liu Speak In Bayside Hills

The Bayside Hills Civic Association is hosting a meeting on the topic of "Board of Standards and Appeals and Outrageous Variance Problems" on April 24th at 8[.m., at the Colonial Church of Bayside.

Comptroller and Mayoral Candidate John Liu will be in attendance.

The BHCA President will be asking Liu to address the community's questions about Board of Standards and Appeals. Not all questions—especially those not emailed in advanced—will .

Dispose Of Your Hazardous Junk

You can clean out your home so you can bring hazardous wastes to the disposal event at St. John’s University on April 28th, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The NYC Dept. of Sanitation will be sending out more information in the mail

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
