Jefferson Democratic Club to Celebrate 101st Anniversary at Douglaston Manor

Group will honor state Assemblywoman Grace Meng, a local labor leader and several others during dinner dance.

Flushing’s Jefferson Democratic Club will celebrate its 101st anniversary during a dinner dance on Oct. 13 at the Douglaston Manor.

This year’s honorees include state Assemblywoman Grace Meng, D-Flushing, who will be named Legislator of the Year, and Bayside’s Dominick Bruccoleri, owner of Papazzio’s Restaurant, who is the Business Leader of the Year.

Arthur Cheliotes, of Bay Terrace, will be named Labor Leader of the Year for his role as president for the Communications Workers of America, Local 1180.

And the John J. Clabby Award will be given to Evelyn and James Wrynn, Sr. for their longtime involvement in northeast Queens politics.

The couple’s son, Douglaston’s James Wrynn, was picked by former Gov. David Paterson in 2009 to be the superintendent of the state’s Insurance Department.

The event, which will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., also commemorates the 101st anniversary of the club.

Tickets for the dinner dance are $85 and can be purchased right up to the date of the event.
