It's A Girl: "First" Queens Baby Arrives Just After Ball Drops

A hearty Patch welcome to Selina Wong of Fresh Meadows, born at 12:01 a.m. New Year's Day.

According to New York Hospital Queens, the borough's newest citizen arrived promptly in the "wee" hours on New Year's morning.

And yes, It's A Girl.

Weighing 7 lbs, 12 oz., hospital staff delivered Selina Wong to proud parents Ting Li and Richard Wong of Fresh Meadows just as revelers up and down the East Coast toasted the New Year.

Selina is the couple's first child.

"It's exciting," says mother, Ting Li, who originally hails from South China. "And unbelievable, I never thought I would have one of the first babies of the New Year."

Among the first gifts the family and baby received from the hospital was a $1,000 savings bond and a congratulatory basket of flowers and baby goods.
