In Memory of Steve Jobs

A closer look into the man behind Apple

After seven long years of battling pancreatic cancer, Steven Paul Jobs passed away earlier this week.  While he will be remembered as an innovator, co-founder and chairman of Apple Inc, chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios, and a member of the board of directors of the Walt Disney Company in 2006, much of Jobs’ personality may remain an enigma to all of those he so dearly touched.

Although much of our present world reflects Jobs’ creative genius, he was paradoxically a very private individual.  This week, I am dedicating my column to his memory, as I strive to shed some light on his character with the help of astrology.

Jobs’ personal and unparalleled courage to think and perform outside of the box and his unwillingness to compromise from what he knew to be true led to his success.

I can’t help but ask myself who Jobs was behind the scenes.   What enabled him to achieve what most of us can only dream of while preserving his identity and vision?

Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 at 6:40 AM in San Francisco, California.  His Pisces rising and sun indicate that he was a gentle, sensitive, empathic, and compassionate individual with a deep understanding of those around him.  His approach to life was tolerant, accepting, and nonjudgmental.  These astrological elements may also explain his deep connection to spiritual matters, as he strove for something greater than an egocentric existence.

Pisces natives such as Jobs require peace and quiet since their intuition and hearts lead them, rather than their logic.  They also need a safe and private place to allow their overactive imaginations to roam freely.  They are usually highly creative, artistic, and inspiring individuals.  They are also capable of giving selflessly and living in service to others.  In Jobs’ case, this was certainly evident.  Jobs’ Sun Conjunct Ascendant also reflects his concern with the impact he made on others.

Jobs’ Aquarius Mercury demonstrates that he possessed a strong humanitarian impulse and commitment to creating a better future.  This element reflects the obvious, that he was a progressive thinker ahead of his time.  He was receptive to new modes of thinking, as he instinctively knew that all people are tied together in some shape or form.

Jobs achieved his higher pursuits with concrete determination.  His Mars in Aries reflects his courageous and tenacious attitude, as he took on the initiative to transform the world into a place only he envisioned.  Jobs’ Aries Mars also explains his desire to do things in his own inventive way, irrespective of the norm.

Jobs was also motivated by an internal vision and quest, as his Mars opposition Neptune reflects that he had a strong urge to transform his dreams into living, breathing realities.  This astrological element also implies that work which would only serve his own personal interests could not have satisfied him.

Jobs was also privately adamant about completing his personal mission.  His Mars square Uranus was responsible for his dynamic, individualistic, and independent approach to life.  Jobs’s chart also indicates that he was fully aware of the mission ahead of him, since he had a Mars trine Pluto.  Individuals born with this element instinctively know that to achieve greatness, they must devote themselves to a project.  A clarity of purpose coupled with a strong will enable these individuals to surpass most obstacles.

Jobs’ Saturn square Pluto indicates that he was prepared to sacrifice a great deal for his convictions and vision of the future.  The struggle does not discourage great men and women, but rather the vision propels them forward.  Individuals with this astrological element usually feel alone with other people and are misunderstood.

Jobs also had a Saturn trine Uranus, which reflects his ability to implement fresh ideas and inspire others.  This element also indicates that he was willing to utilize new methodologies in the pursuit of a higher cause.

Finally, I would like to emphasize that although astrology can shed some light on Steve Jobs, I think his legacy speaks for itself.

Steve Jobs, thank you for reminding us of how precious time is and how priceless our visions can be.
