Historians Seeking Memories of Bridge Construction

Bayside Historical Society is researching the beginnings of the Clearview Expressway and Throgs Neck Bridge

Once, there was no bridge connecting Bay Terrace to the Bronx.

That time was half a century ago, and the Bayside Historical Society is asking for help to remember it.

BHS is chronicling the construction of the Throgs Neck Bridge and Clearview Expressway with a documentary and exhibit, set to open in May.

"This community was greatly impacted," said Alison McKay, BHS archivist, adding ,"particularly with regard to the Clearview.  In fact, there were some 400 homes that had to be moved or razed to make way for it."

Not all Bayside area locals were negatively affected. The project enabled Bayside High School to acquire land for the present day Bayside Athletic Field, according to McKay
