The Deepdale Gardens Community Council is hosting its 21st annual blood drive to benefit New York Hospital.

For those feeling especially giving this week, the Deepdale Gardens Community Council is hosting its 21st Annual Blood Drive to benefit New York Hospital.

In addition to the warm feelings that come with helping others, participants will be rewarded for their contribution in other, more tangible ways: Anyone who donates will be given two free passes to the otherwise members-only Deepdale Pool. , and others will also be on hand to supply snacks, ensuring that any blood lost is compensated for in baked goods.

All participants are automatically entered into a raffle, making them eligible to win gift certificates for everything from a romantic dinner to a relaxing pedicure.

Sandy Plotkin, who chairs Deepdale's membership committee, said that turnout for the drive has held steady for a number of years, usually garnering between 190 and 200 participants annually.

The blood has been donated to New York Hospital since the drive's inception 21 years ago, Plotkin said, since organizers know that it's used on site, rather than being sold to an outside entity.
