Happy Hanukkah!

Festival of lights begins Dec. 1

If you celebrate Hanukkah, don't worry about it getting overshadowed by Christmas. There are plenty of ways to enjoy the Festival of Lights locally.

It certainly helps that it is early this year, starting for eight nights on Dec. 1.

If you belong to a local temple, most will be having their own holiday parties for the Hebrew and Sunday School kids.

This Sunday, Dec. 5, you can also head over to the Samuel Field Y in Little Neck and enjoy their "Chanukah Celebration" from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be dancing, games, arts & crafts, candle lighting ceremony, prizes and latkes. Suggested contribution is $1 per person.

Right in our own backyard, the Bay Terrace Shopping Center has a Menorah Lighting at 6 p.m. on Sunday on the Upper Level.

Even if you don't participate in any of these events, you can make sure Hanukkah is a special holiday in your house by lighting your own menorah and playing dreidel.

And don't forget to enjoy chocolate gelt and delicious latkes, whether you make them yourself or get them from in the Bay Terrace Shopping Center.
