Had Enough of Your Old Electronics? Consider E-Recycling

Dispose of your old computers, TVs and everything in between the environmentally conscious way.

Sure, you recycle cans and bottles, but did you know you can recycle your old electronics, too?

This weekend, the Lower East Side Ecology Center is opening 17 "e-recycling" centers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. across the five boroughs - including two locations convenient to residents in northeast Queens.

On Saturday, bring your unwanted items to the parking lot at St. John’s University. Enter at Gate 4 off Union Turnpike and 175th Street.

On Sunday, head to the New York Hall of Science visitor parking lot in Corona. Enter at 111th St. & 49th Ave. 

Participants may recycle the following items, functioning or not:

•    Computers (laptops & desktops, servers, mainframes)

•    Monitors

•    Printers, scanners, fax-machines, copiers

•    Network devices (routers, hubs, modems, etc.)

•    Peripherals (keyboards, mice, cables, etc.)

•    Components (hard drives, CD-ROMs, circuit boards, power supplies, etc.)

•    TVs, VCRs, and DVD Players

•    Audio-visual equipment

•    Cell phones, pagers, PDAs

•    Telecommunication (phones, answering machines, etc.) 

The recycling centers cannot accommodate home appliances, so leave your microwaves, refrigerators and air conditioners at home.
