Great Escape: The Baybridge Swim & Racquet Club

Members-only exclusive fun

Those Bayside residents lucky enough to live within the gates of Baybridge Condominiums have exclusive use of the three-level clubhouse, which includes an indoor pool. Inside its walls, members can choose to how to spend their day or night of pure “me time.”

Since the clubhouse is part of a housing community, friendships and relationships are created among neighbors. On a personal note, I met my own husband there more than 25 years ago when I worked the front desk for my summer job during college.

Presently, a full schedule of fitness classes include Zumba, Power Yoga, Hatha Yoga, kickboxing, weight training, stretch and tone and step. Evening classes are offered between 5 to 9: 30 p.m. during the week and on Saturdays from 8:50 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 10 to 1130 a.m. on Sundays.

If classes aren’t your thing, the clubhouse’s fitness center features stationary bicycles, Stairmasters, treadmills, elliptical machines and strength training equipment. An inside running track looks down on the inside pool. There are also two inside racquetball courts, one with a basketball hoop.

The locker room boasts a steam room, sauna and showers, allowing indulgence pre- or post-workout, or any time you need to escape.

The community room is home to a weekly complimentary Sunday brunch during the winter months where neighbors gather to enjoy bagels and more. The room also has a television and is the place to go to watch Saturday night movies, play weekly bingo and for some ladies where they play their weekly mahjongg game.

If your idea of an escape is molding clay, a complimentary pottery class is held three times a month.

Outside, two har-tru tennis courts are available for use, and an outdoor pool is open May through September. Barbecues for members and guests mark the holiday weekends.

Membership is included in monthly maintenance dues. Summer hours starting Memorial Day weekend when the outdoor pool officially opens are 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursdays until 11 p.m. weekdays and weekends 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Located at 13-34 Estates Lane; 718-352-2131.
