Great Escape: Six Flags Great Adventure

The fun continues into the Fall

Labor Day may be just around the corner, but that does not mean the Great Escape of the theme park kind is not do-able. Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, N.J. will be open daily through Labor Day and then on weekends through October. Even better, some exciting fall events make it more fun to make the approximately two-hour drive from Bayside.

The 2,200 acre park includes Six Flags Great Adventure with 13 roller coasters, three children’s areas, interactive animal entertainment, live concerts and a drive-thru Safari, home to 1,200 exotic animals from six continents. The rides are good for all ages, and many are family rides so you can pair up with the kiddies if you would like. The newest attraction to the park is the “Green Lantern” stand-up roller coaster towering 15 stories high with over three quarters of a mile of twisting green steel.

October 1 marks the beginning of “Fright Fest”, which will run through the end of the month. Halloween-themed shows for kids take place before 5:30, but once the sun sets the scary comes out with shows, thrill rides and walk-through attractions. Nov. 5-6 the park hosts the Grape Adventure Wine Festival featuring samplings of nearly 150 locally produced wines, live entertainment and a craft village.
