Now that spring is finally here, take advantage of the outdoors and the variety of activities available at Douglaston’s very own Alley Pond Park.

The park stretches from Little Neck Bay to Springfield Boulevard and Union Turnpike and - at an estimated 657 acres - is the second largest in Queens.

It is home to the largest ropes course in northeast Queens and features barbecue areas, baseball fields, basketball courts, dog runs, fishing, football fields, golf courses, handball courts, hiking trails, nature centers, playgrounds, soccer fields, shower sprays and tennis courts.

Alley Pond also features freshwater and saltwater wetlands, tidal flats, meadows and forests, which provide and support an abundant bird population.

While there are plenty of activities for children, including the Alley Pond Park Adventure course, adults can also choose from a variety of programs, such as tennis lessons.
