FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

 


Where/When: , on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Why Go: Kids, teens and adults will enjoy playing their favorite board games during this free event. While you're there, the kids can pick up a book to take home!

Pricing: Free

 

Where/When: Al Oerter Recreation Center, 131-40 Fowler Avenue, in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. On Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Why Go:  What better way to prepare for Earth Day than to learn about all of the ways they can make a difference.

Pricing: Free

 


Where/When:  , on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Why Go: Participants will take a hike, around Fort Totten park with the sounds and sensations nature creates during the Spring time.

Pricing: Free

 


Where/When: , 245-37 60th Ave, in Little Neck. On Saturday at 8:00 p.m. or Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

Why Go: Because it exposes the kids to live entertainment, the likes of which can only be found at the theatre.

Pricing:  Adults, $18; Kids under 12 & Seniors, $16

 


Where/When: Queens College's Colden Auditorium, 65-30 Kissena Boulevard, on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

Why Go: Kids will be delighted to see, not only Popovich's tricks, but those of his four legged co-stars as well.

Pricing: Adults, $18; Kids under 12, $12

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
