Maggie's Birthday!

Where/When: , today, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Why Go: Okay, so this may not be a weekend event, but who can say "no" to a free mini coke float? Besides, it's National Ice Cream Month. Wouldn't it be unpatriotic not to attend?!

Pricing: Mini coke floats are free, while other purchases vary in price.

 

Early Bird Summer Bowling Special

Where/When: JIB Lanes, 67-19 Parsons Boulevard. On Saturday and Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: Because you'll get unlimited bowling fun in the span of 3 hours. You can stay out of the sweltering heat, while enjoying family time outside of the house.

Pricing: $25 per lane.

 

Where/When: Flushing Public Library, 41-17 Main Street. On Saturday, at 2:00 p.m.

Why Go: The Flushing Branch of the Queens Library will celebrate the birth year of composer Franz Liszt, as this year marks the 200th anniversary, with a musical performance by pianists Marie Blair and Jeremy Rafal (founders of Musica Thema).

Pricing: Free

 


Where/When: , on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Why Go: The family will enjoy a night of Bingo and raffles, with cash prizes for all you lucky winners.

Pricing: Free to attend. Raffle and game cards vary in price.

 

Sunday Dinner

Where/When: , on Sunday evening.

Why Go: Kids under the age of twelve not only eat for free, but have 4 choices for an entree, 5 choices for a side and get a vanilla ice cream sundae for dessert. You can't beat that.

Pricing: Kids, younger than 12, will receive a complimentary meal with the purchase of an adult entree. Food and drink prices vary.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
