Where/When: . On Friday, from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Why Go: Live music, lots of bands and tons of drinks!

Pricing: No cover, drink prices vary.

Where/When: Little Neck - Douglaston Community Ambulance Corps, 42-18 Marathon Parkway. On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Stop by to show  your support and appreciation and you'll get ambulance tours and demonstrations on equipment as well as refreshments and raffle prizes.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: . On Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: When else will you be able to listen to smooth jazz while eating cheese and drinking wine in a castle?

Pricing:  $15 for historical society members and $20 for nonmembers.

4. Subway Series This Weekend

Where/When: , On Friday, at 7:05 p.m., Saturday at 7:10 p.m. and Sunday at 1:05 p.m.

Why Go: You'll be able to watch the game on Strawberry's big screens and be entered for a chance to win a Jose Reyes Jersey.

Pricing: Free to attend. Food and drink prices vary.

5. Bargain Matinee

Where/When: . On Friday, Saturday or Sunday, before 5 p.m.

Why Go: You can see all the latest releases - "Thor," "Bridesmaids" and "Jumping the Broom" - for an affordable price. Going to the movies won't break the bank with this special promotion.

Pricing: $6.50 a ticket on all movies showing before 5 p.m.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
