Get Out: Salute Our Local Heroes

Honoring our troops, medical emergency workers, and cancer survivors of northeast Queens.

As part of National EMS Week, we’re helping you honor every brave hero in your community. From soldiers to volunteers, start off by applauding for the Memorial Day art and essay contest winners in Fort Totten.

Then, congratulate the Little Neck-Douglaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps members for more than 50 years of service, as they host a block party in your neighborhood. Or, join the bar crawl on Bell Boulevard to benefit the American Cancer Society. Don’t miss your chance to cheer for a local hero, or feel like one!

When/Where: The Ernie Pyle Center at Fort Totten, Weaver Road and Jarman Road, Bayside, on Friday at 7 p.m.
Why Go: Local students will create unique tributes to honor the bravery of our past and present military troops just in time for Memorial Day. Come and encourage them to keep the memory of our uniformed heroes alive.
