Get Out: Salsa Nights and Young Chefs
These fun ideas will guarantee a great weekend all close to your neighborhood.
Spice up your weekend! On Friday, learn salsa dancing at Flushing Meadows Corona Park. It’s a great way to start happy hour. Or, have a rocking fun time with The Silly Dilly Band at LICM. You’ll want to wake up early and enjoy a morning Shabbat service with the beloved Rabbi Gordon Yaffe. It’s a special treat for the whole family.
Then, it’s east meets west with a Chinese art exhibit and a young chef’s Independence Day celebration all in one day.
When/Where: The Little Neck Jewish Center, 49-10 Little Neck Parkway, Little Neck, on Saturday from 10:45 a.m. to noon.
Why Go: Meet and greet with Rabbi Gordon Yaffe during a delicious lunch-time Shabbat service, held especially for youngsters ages 6 and under. Sign up for Hebrew school during the open house.

When/Where: Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Ave., Garden City, on Friday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go: This live band delivers original silly songs and whimsical costumes that will captivate your child’s imagination. Any kid age 3 and up will have a blast!

Mansheng Wang: Art and Artlessness Presented by Queens College
When/Where: Godwin-Ternbach Museum, 65-30 Kissena Blvd., Flushing, on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Why Go: Experience Wang’s golden “Year of China” and his exhibit of more than 70 works, which explores major themes like Buddhism and tradition with a modern twist.
