It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

1. Live D.J.

Where/When: . On Friday, starting at 10 p.m.

Why Go: With Happy Hour taking place from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., this is the perfect segue into an awesome night.

Pricing: Food and drink prices vary. No cover.

Where/When: . On Saturday, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., or Sunday, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Why Go: Participants will get a free, guided, tour of a Bayside landmark, The Castle.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: . On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Why Go: Because a part of the proceeds will go to St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital. You'll also have the pleasure of knowing you're one of the first to enter the Bayside site of this Zagat-rated frozen yogurt chain. 

Pricing: Prices vary

 

4.

Where/When: On Bell Boulevard. Friday or Saturday, before 11 p.m.

Why Go: Recently recognized as one of the best sandwich restaurants in NYC, this hot spot has outdoor seating, and a full liquor and wine bar.

Pricing: Food and drink prices vary.

 

5. Sunday Funday

Where/When: Strawberry's Sports Grill. On Sunday.

Why Go: Let's see, 16 TVs, giveaways, specials on beer and wings, as well as regulars like the Sunday Brunch Buffet (available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Don't forget to catch the Buffalo Bills vs New York Giants, at 1 p.m. 

Pricing: Pitchers as low as $10. Combos for pitchers and wings as low as $20. Sunday Brunch Buffet for $15.95, with unlimited Bloody Marys and Mimosas for an additional $11.95.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
