Get Out: Celebrate Israel's Independence
Pick your favorite parade, run for cancer, or enjoy a fashion film festival this weekend.
The summer parade season continues. This time, New York City is rolling out the red carpet to help celebrate the 63rd anniversary of Israel’s independence. You can get there via bus ride compliments of the Little Neck Jewish Center and The Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council. Just be on time!
Next, you can honor World Environment Day with a hike at Alley Pond to raise awareness about our forests. Cheer on Cancer survivors by signing up for a relay at Fort Totten. Or, escape the heat and catch a cool flick about some famous fashionistas.
When/Where: Designated park and ride area will be at Little Neck Jewish Center, 4910 Little Neck Parkway, Little Neck, on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Parade is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Join your neighbors and wave your flags at giant floats and musical performances as you celebrate Israel’s Independence with a grand parade along Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue.
Pricing: $18 donation for bus ride, parade T-shirt, bottled water and a snack.
World Environment Day Celebration and Hike at APEC
When/Where: Alley Pond Environmental Center, 228-06 Northern Blvd., Little Neck, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Why Go: Celebrate the "Year Of International Forests" by taking an invigorating hike through Alley Pond and searching for Asian long-horned beetles. Afterward, you’ll enjoy browsing the information booths and learning fun forest facts.
Pricing: Free.

When/Where: Fort Totten, at Weaver Road and Jarman Road, Bayside, on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Why Go: Survivor’s of the "Big C" have the best reason to celebrate: life! Everyone will enjoy the music, raffle, prizes, games and food followed by a touching candlelight ceremony at 10 p.m.
Pricing: $10
When/Where: Elmont library, 700 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont, On Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Why Go: The parade leads with fanfare from local Elmont high school marching band fanfare and continues into Belmont Park for a feast from the Cradle of Aviation Museum and The New York Racing Association. You will enjoy the endless hot dogs and games to play.
Pricing: Free.

When/Where: Nassau County Museum of Art, 1 Museum Drive, Roslyn, on Friday and Saturday. Showtimes begin at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Why Go: Take a break from the beach and cool off by watching films about some of fashion’s greatest innovators including Richard Avedon, Anna Wintour and more. Films are shown daily.
Pricing: Free with museum admission.
