1. PC Richard & Son

Where/When: 42-99 Francis Lewis Boulevard. On Friday, starting at 4 a.m.

Why Go: For the sales on flat panel HDTVs (43 inch for $356.91), tablets (Archos for $99.99), cameras (Sony for $89.99) and appliances (Hair washer and dryer for $499.94). Select gaming bundle packs also on sale for $199.99.

 2. New York & Company

Where/When: Bay Terrace Shopping Center, on Friday, starting at 6 a.m.

Why Go: The 50 to 70 percent off sale. Exclusions do apply.

Pricing: Prices vary.

3. Men's Wearhouse

Where/When: Bay Terrace Shopping Center, right now!

Why Go: Sales include buy one get one free, with some exclusions and buy one get one 50 percent off on shoes. Sale runs through Jan. 1.

Pricing: Prices vary.

4. Walmart

Where/When: 77 Green Acres Road, in Valley Stream. On Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m., 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Why Go: Tons of sales, which include $34.88 for a bedding set (8 p.m. Thursday), $29.86 for an air-powered hockey table (10 p.m.) and $298 for a 50 inch TV (5 a.m.). There are plenty more sales at each time.

Pricing: Diferent deals apply at different times.

5. Staples and Staples

Where/When: 209-34 Northern Blvd and 252-17 Northern Blvd. On Friday at midnight.

Why Go: Specials include $99.90 for a Nook Color, $449 for a Toshiba or Dell Inspiron laptop, and $39.99 for select office chairs.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
