1. Tavern Happy Hour

Where/When: . On Friday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Why Go: For the specials that include $3, $4 and $5 drinks, along with half off tapas.

Pricing: Free to enter. Food and drink prices vary.

 

 2.  Live Band Karaoke

Where/When: The Attic Bar & Lounge. On Saturday, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Why Go: You'll get the chance to live out your secret fantasy of being a rock star, with The Revivers serving as your very own band!

Pricing: No cover.

 

3. Superbowl Sunday at Bourbon Street

Where/When: . On Sunday!

Why Go: You'll get your own table, unlimited drinks during the game and a buffet. If that weren't enough, how does the chance to win a flat screen TV sound, among other things.

Pricing: $45 per person. Reservations are a must!

 

4. New York Giants vs New England Patriots

Where/When: Strawberry's Sports Grill. On none other than Superbowl Sunday, at 6:30 p.m., of course!

Why Go: Strawberry's is offering two options for you Superbowl enthusiasts. The first includes an open bar of top shelf liquor, for the entire game, seating, and dinner. The second option features open bar of beer for the entire game and all you can eat wings. Giants fans will be happy to know you'll get free blue shots when your team scores, and for wearing your Giants jersey.

Pricing: First option is $75 per person. Second option is $50 per person.

 

5. Super Sunday

Where/When: . On Superbowl Sunday!

Why Go: So that you can reap the benefits of purchasing just 2 drinks at the bar -- an all you can eat buffet.

Pricing: Free to enter. Food and drink prices vary. Specials apply.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
