It’s Thursday and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit, and a list of new bars, restaurants and shops to explore.

1. Cinco de Mayo

Where/When: 39-32 Bell Boulevard. On Friday, Saturday or Sunday night.

Why Go: Aside from the Mexican fare, your drink options range from Margaritas and Sangrias to Pina Coladas and, my personal favorite, Mojitos.

Pricing: Food and drink prices vary.

2. National Amateur Pool League

Where/When: Cue Bar. On Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Why Go: If you think you've got what it takes to compete, you can register for the 8-ball/9-ball league at Cue Bar. If you're not ready yet, get some practice in while you shoot some pool with friends.

Pricing: Prices vary depending on number of players and hours played.

3. Civil War New York: Historic Fort Totten

Where/When: Fort Totten. On Saturday at 1 p.m.

Why Go: Learn about the history of New York - and your neighborhood - during this event at Fort Totten.

Pricing: Free

4. 17th Annual Valentines for Vets Gift Drive

Where/When: Assemblyman Edward C. Braunstein’s Office, located at 213-33 39th Avenue, Suite 238. From now until Feb. 12.

Why Go: This is a great opportunity to make a difference for someone that has made a difference for everyone. Anything from cards and candy to toiletries and pajamas are welcome.

Pricing: Free.

5. Donovan's Famous Brunch

Where/When: Donovan's Grill & Tavern. On Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Along with the great food, prepared by someone other than yourself, you'll get a free cocktail.

Pricing: Food and drink prices vary.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
