Queens Tourism Council Members to donate Waste Vegetable Oil to Re-fuel Dartmouth's Big Green Bus at NYC stop on 24 state, 12,000 Mile Journey

from Businesswire:

The Courtyard by Marriott New York-JFK Airport hotel, with American By-Products Recyclers LLC are proud to be working with Alley Pond Environmental Center (APEC) and the Queens Tourism Council to show how “green” Queens is, as the Borough welcomes Dartmouth’s Big Green Bus (www.thebiggreenbus.org) to NYC where it will receive donated waste vegetable oil (WVO) to help fuel the bus.

In its eighth year, the completely student run Dartmouth Big Green Bus hits the road traveling 12,000 miles across 24 states on a reused, veggie-powered Greyhound bus. Through collaborative community events, the Big Green Bus hopes to foster dialogue to connect environmentalism with community involvement. By inspiring action at a local level, the bus's mission is to create a future that sustains people, the environment and the economy. The Courtyard by Marriott New York-JFK Airport is donating WVO from its kitchen over the next month to help fuel the Big Green Bus. American By-Products Recyclers LLC has agreed to donate their services to collect this waste vegetable oil as well as from other participating Queens businesses. American By-Products Recyclers will donate additional waste vegetable oil needed to ensure a minimum of 110 gallons is provided to fuel the bus. The Laughing Devil Comedy Club, El Ay Si restaurant and other members of the Queens Tourism Council are pitching in, including the New York Mets participation in cooperation with the WVO recycler for Citi Field, A & L Recyclers.

“The timing of this initiative is ideal, with New York City’s legislative law 194-A known as ‘NYC Bio-Heat 2012’ due to take effect this fall,” said Todd MaGee of American By-Products Recyclers. “This important initiative passed into law by the City Council and signed by Mayor Bloomberg in 2010 requires that all heating oil used in New York City commercial boilers use a percentage of Biodiesel, phased-in starting this October. An end product of waste vegetable oil is bio diesel, showing that our efforts in Queens support the environmental goals of NYC and the community in which we do business.” Businesses interested in donating waste vegetable oil can American By-Products Recyclers at 1-800-825-0630.
