Earthquake Surviving Baysider or Terrorism in Israel

March 13, 2011

Good morning, Bayside.

We'd like to express our great sadness over the  horrifying chain of disasters in Japan. We extend our condolences to any of our readers with loved ones in Japan.

1. We know of at least one Baysider, Samantha Kjaerbye, who reportedly  survived the 8.9 magnitude quake while huddling with co-workers in prayer in her Tokyo office building.

2. Since the Japanese earthquake, tsunami and now likely nuclear meltdown have dominated international news, we thought we'd mention the likely terrorist attack in a Jewish settlement in the West Bank. Two Jewish settler parents and their three children, ages three-months, three years and 11 years old, were stabbed in their sleep. It is believed an affiliate of the violent faction of the Palestinian Fatah party's al-Aksa Martyrs Brigade may be to blame.

3. If you'd like to help the people of Japan with emergency relief, you can donate to Network for Good.

4. On a much lighter note, Daylight Savings Time went into effect at 2 a.m. this morning. If you have not already pushed your clock one hour forward, you may want to this morning. history of Daylight Savings Time.

5. You only have until 11:59 p.m. today to register your child for an NYC Parks Dept. summer camp. Their rates are extremely reasonable ($500 for most of the summer for a Regular day program and $575 for and Extended Day program). Check out their Web site to register online.
