Douglaston Little Neck Library Unveils January Roster of Programs

Library will offer a drum workshop and several classes for children.

The Douglaston Little Neck Library will offer a drum and percussion workshop as well as several other programs for young children in January.

The library, located at 249-01 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston, will hold its English conversation classes on Jan. 7, 14 and 28 at 1 p.m.

Its knitting and crocheting club will be held on Jan. 7, 14 and 28 at 3 p.m.

The library’s Toddler Time program will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. This class is designed for children between the ages of 2 and 3-and-a-half as well as their parents.

During the program, children listen to stories, sing songs and dance.

Mother Goose Time will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 4, 11, 18 and 25. The program, which is meant for children between the ages of nine and 24 months, includes singing nursery rhymes, listening to stories and learning about Mother Goose and her friends.

This month’s special program is a drum and percussion workshop for teenagers. It will take place at 4 p.m. on Jan. 28. The class will be taught by professional musician Tony Genovese.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
