Update: District 26 May Lose 4 Percent of Teaching Force
District 25 stands to lose 5 percent of their teachers.

District 26 school teachers may be 4 percent fewer, a citywide list of layoffs issued by the Department of Education ominously indicates.
District 26, which includes Bayside, Little Neck, Douglaston, Oakland Gardens, Fresh Meadows, Auburndale and Bellerose, stands to lose 5 percent of elementary school teachers, 4 percent of intermediary teachers and 3 percent of high school teachers.

District 25, which encompasses Bay Terrace, could lose 5 percent of its teachers, if the dire plan to layoff 4,666 goes forward.
Mayor Mike Bloomberg to eliminate 6,166 teaching positions—1,500 through attrition and the remainder through layoffs—on Feb. 17. The measure would make up for losses in federal and state funding.
