Cuts to Senior Centers or Subway Late Pass

March 4, 2011

Good morning, Bayside. It is Friday, (Wooh!). We hope you enjoy your five things, with an eye toward this weekend. Here they are:

1. Did you hear about the guy from Douglaston who allegedly drunkenly assaulted a local livery cab driver, stole the man's car and then crashed it into a utility pole? to find out what he said when he woke up—and what the cop sitting next to him had to respond.

2. If NYC does not receive $25 million in funding from Albany, 105 senior centers across the city would become hard-strapped, or even at risk for closure, according to the Department for the Aging. None are in Bayside, but there are some in our area: Clearview Senior Center, Hanac and Latimer Gardens, are at risk.

3. In reaction to the threat of cuts to the centers, Warren Schreiber, President of the Bay Terrace Community Alliance is encouraging all to get out and rally for the funding, today at the steps of Flushing Town Hall at 3 p.m.

4. Bayside Patch really digs having a Cajun restaurant right in the neighborhood. How many others can boast the same? Boubon Street is pulling out all stops this year.

5. Are you aware that if you are made late to work by a subway delay, the MTA will write you a late pass?
