Cardinal Signs in Love

What to expect when the astrological matriarch and patriarch get together

Dear Yael,

I am dating...dating a lot...I have met some really great guys and a couple that at least gave me funny stories to tell my friends. Right now, I am interested in one of the men I am seeing. He is a Capricorn and I am a Cancer. We have great conversations and a lot of attraction, although both of us are a little gun shy from previous relationships. My last relationship ended a couple of years ago and his ended only about 7 months ago. So now we are taking our time. We have had three really great dates. Two in our hometown and another in the Big Apple.  Our communication is fun and free and there is so much chemistry. I am clear that I want to get to know him better and probably date exclusively. This freaks me out a bit.  Opening my heart again to someone…and somehow I know that I can trust him, however this may turn out. Basically, I need your help.  Are we a good match?

Thank you,

Dear Batya,

Cancer-Capricorn combinations make beautiful unions.  You are a Cancer (the matriarch of the zodiac, also referred to as “moon children”) and he is a Capricorn (the patriarch of the zodiac).

Cancer women are ruled by the moon, and thus, natives of this sign are the most emotionally complex of all the signs.  They are family oriented, emotionally reserved, private, sensitive, moody, domestically inclined and highly intuitive.  As a Cancer, you are known for your hard and durable shield; however, those who know you best see through the mask and into your soft and mushy interior.

Capricorn men are family oriented, loyal, trustworthy, cautious, reserved, loving, ambitious, hard-working, self-motivated, and determined.  They also have a sensitive nature, but are more inclined to brooding than lashing out at others.

Cancer (a water sign) and Capricorn (an earth sign) are astrological opposites, which is extremely beneficial to compatibility.  They each have what the other lacks.  Most likely, they finish each others’ sentences.

Both Cancer and Capricorn are cardinal signs.  Cardinal signs (Cancer, Capricorn, Aries, and Libra) initiate, forge ahead, and lead others. They are outgoing, dynamic, and restless in pursuing new projects and undiscovered territory.

Each of the cardinal signs interacts in the world differently, depending on their element. Aries (fire) serves as a catalyst and inspires others with his vision. Cancer (water) leads the world with his heart and pushes for new territory in the emotional realm.  Libra (air) initiates through new ideas and provides balance in the world.  Capricorn (earth) serves as a natural authority figure.  He is grounded and a master of the physical plane.

Each of the cardinal signs also sets the tone at the beginning of each season – Aries (Spring), Cancer (Summer), Libra (Fall) and Capricorn (Winter).

Since both of you are cardinal signs, you will have to curb your tendencies to lead and control the other, since neither of you take orders very well.  You will have to understand that both of you are natural leaders, which will ultimately aid to your growth rather than hindering it.

Finally, I advise you to calm down, step back, and take a little more of a practical approach to the situation.  Capricorn men take time to develop into the patriarchal figures destiny has bestowed upon them.  They cannot be forced into a relationship, but once they give themselves to the partner of their choice, it is for the long haul.  They are not the types to run away when the going gets tough.  In fact, they thrive in these times.

Good luck and please keep me posted,

Yael
