Update: A major snowstorm is pummeling Douglaston. The National Weather Service increased estimates of accumulation to 15 to 20 inches, up from a 11-16 forecast for New York City, northeastern New Jersey, southeastern Connecticut and Long Island.
The National Weather Service Saturday issued a blizzard warning for the area beginning Sunday at 6 a.m. through 6 p.m. Monday.
Snowfall is expected to continue to be heavy, with strong winds and a possibility of thunder, snowdrifts and zero visibility at times, according to the NWS.
